Did you join our online community forum to officially launch Voices of Mornington Peninsula? It was a great success with up to 200 attendees, and a palpable energy.
Our online event began with an acknowledgment of country and yidaki performance by Lionel Lauch from Living Culture. The afternoon was expertly steered by Peninsula's own Tracee Hutchison, former ABC broadcaster and journalist.
We were energised about the possible positive future for Australian politics and the many and complex factors holding us back as a country, by former Liberal Party Leader (1990-1994) John Hewson.
Cathy McGowan, former member for Indi, gave us all a sense of hope about the possibilities of a truly representative Australian parliament and how independent federal candidates can lead these outcomes.
Louise Page, Voices of Mornington Peninsula Director and community campaigner, spoke about the strength of community in our local area and the successes that follow when we unite around shared values. Louise also gave an overview of Voices of Mornington Peninsula and our intentions for the movement.
We were also treated to some live music performed by local artist Tim Stout. Tim's cover of Patti Smith's 'People have the power' galvanised the spirit of the afternoon.
Many thanks to all the hard work of the organisers, and for our guests for generously donating their time to our event.
